Woke up for an early morning walk along the beach toward the Mersy River, Devonport, after being woken by the fog horn of the Spirit Of Tasmania coming in about 6am.
After a big breakfast of eggs bacon and coffee we were off and heading to Sheffield the town of Murals
If you keep your eyes open you may meet Nina and her owner who takes her everywhere with him including his morning coffee:
After coffee at Sheffield we drove out into the Great Western Tiers and The World Heritage Wilderness
On the road to Alum Cliffs: Western Tiers Tasmania
Tasman Flax Lily found it in the scrub on the Track to Tulumpanga/Alum Cliffs
I think this plant is Lilac Bells/Black Eyed Susan: Track to Tulumpanga/Alum Cliffs
Hiking out to Alum Cliffs
We drove out into the World Wilderness Heritage Area and out to the Devils Gullet, but extremely bad weather set in very quickly and we had to get out of there and head back to Devonport. We had total white outs with the fog on several occasions making driving very dangerous.
After arriving at devils gullet the wind was howling as we hiked out to see if we could get a quick look, knowing we needed to get out of there pretty quickly.
The walk out was on a good track was very eerie with the wind picking up and a mist starting to roll across the bush, i knew we had to get a move on or suffer a white out. Arrived at Devils Gullet only to be confronted by a white out of fog rolling in.
We got out of there straight away and moved very quickly to get back to the car, we were racing against the weather. After reaching the car we drove the dirt to get out at a good pace, only to find out after about 30minutes we wern't going anywhere fast, as i couldnt see 2 feet in front of me and we were on a tight winding mountain road with no barriers. After clearing the fog section we drove back to Devonport in the rain without incident and back to our cabin for a rest, a shower and plan tomorrows adventure, as we would be leaving Devonport and start the drive eastward following the secondary roads along the north coast.
