Following the North Coast our 1st stop was Hewley Beach, Port Sorrell
Next stop was Narawntapu National Park where we decided next trip to Tassie we would spend a few nights at the unpowered camps of this beautiful place.
Narawntapu National Park: Remnants of what was in the 1800's a sheep property called " Springlawn"
Some very nice beaches as well
Leaving Narawntapu National Park we followed muddy dirt road until we arrived at York Town, didnt find much there but a few monuments to the towns history and a mock up of a 1800's hut
AFter leaving York Town we head south to Beaconsfield an old mining town made famous recently with the rescue of 2 trapped miners. This old pub and alot of the old mining town reek of history:
More old building with the poppet head of the mine in the background
The entrance to the abandoned Grubb Shaft Mine circa 1905. Here for $11 a head you enter the Heritage Museum and its worth every cent as you wander the ruins of the old Grubb Mine for a few hours:
So much vintage gear hanging about Beaconsfield Heritage Museum/Mine:
Grubb Shaft Mine ruins you can walk around in here just be careful
The most media exposed poppet head i have seen, this is where everyone waited to see: Brant Webb (37) and Todd Russell (34) get themselfs out of this mine collapse, sadly Larry Knight (44) didnt survive. There is a place in the museum where you can pop your head up into a pipe and get a replica of the cage these guys had to live in, not good...
I wonder how this hub to hub setup would go under my camper trailer
After leaving Beaconsfield we followed the Tamar River on our way to Launceston. We didnt stop in Launceston just drove straight through and followed the river back up the other side to George Town then onto Low Head:
Continuing up through Georgetown and after a long full day on the road we arrive at Low Head with just enough time to get some accomodation and snap a few frames: Light houses all over the place, we are on the Tamar River near the entrance to Bass Strait.
Nice end to another long day
A view from our cabin as the beer kicks in and the sunsets
